Before Surgery:
All pets will have a pre-surgery exam and EKG to detect a heart murmer or any kind of disorder before being administered an anesthetic.  Age appropriate bloodwork will also be done to be sure everything internally is OK.

During Surgery:
Your pet is started on IV fluids to help support circulation during surgery.  They are placed on a heated surgery table to help keep body temperature up.  We will place a breathing tube on all anesthetized animals to keep the airway open and allow for oxygen and gas anesthesia to be given as needed.  A vet specs machine will also be hooked up to the patient to monitory the heart, oxygen levels and blood pressure.  Every surgery is performed with complete sterile techniques (gowns, drapes, sterial pack, etc.)

After Surgery:
The patient will be given something for pain.  Surgery hurts!  Anesthetic will not provide pain control once the pet wakes up.  The are put on a heated water blanket to help control their body temperature while they are waking up.  The patient's temperature is monitored during and after surgery at regular intervals.  Also the patients gum color, respiration and circulation are also monitored.
